THERAPY FOR TEENS AND YOUNG MEN WHO DON’T LIKE THERAPY (BUT KNOW SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE)
Real, grounded therapy in Salt Lake City—without the pressure or pretense
A DIFFERENT KIND OF THERAPY
Why Work With Me?
A lot of people I work with don’t connect with traditional therapy.
Sitting in a room, trying to come up with the “right” things to say, being told to think positive or use coping skills that don’t really stick—it can feel forced, inauthentic, or just not helpful.
Real life is more complicated than that.
This is a space where you don’t have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or pretend things are fine.
We slow things down, look at what’s actually going on, and figure out what needs to shift—at a pace that feels real and manageable.
THIS ISN’T THERAPY AS USUAL
REAL, STRAIGHTFORWARD CONVERSATIONS
You won’t find forced positivity or surface-level advice here.
This is a practical, honest approach focused on understanding what’s actually going on—and what to do about it.
REAL, STRAIGHTFORWARD CONVERSATIONS
This isn’t about overanalyzing or just talking in circles.
We slow things down, make sense of what’s underneath the surface, and work through it in a way that actually translates to real life—sometimes sitting, sometimes walking.
BUILT FOR TEEN BOYS AND YOUNG MEN WHO FEEL STUCK
This work is designed for guys who feel off, shut down, or unsure of who they are—but don’t always have the words for it.
You don’t have to show up with everything figured out. We start where you are.
Why I Do This Work
I’m Cody Johnson, LCSW. I’ve spent over 15 years working with teens, young adults, and families who feel stuck in patterns that don’t seem to change—whether that shows up as shutdown, anxiety, anger, or just feeling lost.
A lot of the people I work with don’t necessarily have the language for what they’re feeling. They just know something feels off. That’s something I relate to deeply.
When I was younger, I was that kid who looked fine on the outside—showing up, playing sports, getting through school—but internally felt disconnected and unsure of where I fit. I didn’t have words for it at the time. I just pushed through it.
That experience shaped how I understand people now: not everything that feels important shows up as a clear “problem.” Sometimes it just feels like something is off and hard to explain.
WHY I STARTED MY PRACTICE
Over the years, I worked in settings where therapy often felt rushed, overly structured, or focused on checking boxes rather than actually helping people understand what was going on.
I started my practice in 2024 to create something different—a space where there’s more room to slow down, think clearly, and do work that actually leads to change.
That also means having the flexibility to meet people in ways that feel more natural, whether that’s sitting and talking or getting outside and walking.
The goal is simple: therapy that feels real, useful, and actually relevant to your life.
Outside of therapy, I’m drawn to things that create space and grounding—nature, movement, music, and quiet environments. You might find me hiking one of my favorite trails, or rooting for my Cubbies!
I also studied anthropology, which shaped how I think about healing. Across cultures, people don’t just heal through talking—they heal through connection, movement, community, and meaning. That perspective still shows up in how I work today.
